Vehicle registration number plates that are covered, defaced, or missing will be subject to urgent regulation enforcement, according to the Niger State Police Command.
The decision was made to combat the increasing practice of drivers purposefully covering, altering, or erasing their car license plates, according to a statement released by SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer.
Vehicles operating on public roadways are obligated to prominently display current registration numbers at all times, as stipulated in the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012 (Regulation 38) and Section 10(3) of the Road Traffic Act 2004 (the “Road Traffic Act”).
Police Officers at the divisional and area levels have been ordered by the state’s commissioner, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, to begin enforcing the rules and regulations across the board without delay.
The leadership stressed the need of vehicle registration, prominent front and rear license plates, and the removal of any covers or barriers that could make identification more difficult.
The document emphasised the need of motorists, transport unions, and the general public working together with law enforcement during the enforcement exercise, justifying the action as vital for the protection of the public and the nation.
