President Bola Tinubu’s statement that he was willing to “fight to the finish” politically has been met with criticism from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The party said through Bolaji Abdullahi, its National Publicity Secretary, that Tinubu should focus his determination on preventing terrorist attacks, apprehension of ransom, and other criminal acts rather than on the opposition.
According to the ADC, Nigerians are expecting the president to take strong measures to combat insecurity in light of the ongoing spate of killings and kidnappings across the country, not to engage in yet another political fight with his opponents.
After at least 30 people were killed in Naridon village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Tinubu reportedly made troubling remarks during a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This occurred just hours before the remarks.
Nigerians did not choose their top executive to be the official spokesperson for the country’s expressions of sympathy.
“The struggle that the people of Nigeria have chosen you to spearhead does not involve the opposition, Mr. President. The ADC stated in its statement that they are fighting against armed criminals, terrorists, and kidnappers who are responsible for the ongoing killing of innocent residents and destabilisation of communities nationwide.
Homes were burnt, families were relocated, and yet another neighbourhood was ravaged by violence; the ADC urged that the Federal Government should take more action in response to tragedies like these.
