Famous critic of state officials Umar Jada, better known by his stage name Calculate, has sued Mohammed Sadiq, commissioner for environment of Adamawa state, for defamation and damages. The ongoing legal dispute and verbal spat between the two sides has taken a new turn.
Calculate was initially involved in a dispute that the commissioner was brought into when Sadiq Wali, the commissioner’s father, took him to a Yola court over an audio statement that the latter claimed hurt his reputation.
In the meantime, Calculate has taken Sadiq Wali to the Adamawa State High Court, where he accuses him of trying to smear and destroy his reputation. He has now increased his general damages demand to N250 million.
The case brought by Cslculate under writ of summons No. HC/ADSY/2025 signifies an unexpected widening of the gap between the two political figures, who had behaved as though a truce was imminent only last week.
Deposition testimony from Calculate asserts that Mohammed Sadiq used derogatory language in a string of posts he made on Facebook on May 25, 2025.
Calculate is requesting that Mohammed Sadiq be ordered to delete the offensive posts from his Facebook wall immediately and is also requesting that the court compel the defendant to pay N250 million in damages for libel.
After Sadiq Wali’s high-profile defamation complaint led to Calculate’s arrest and imprisonment by a Magistrate Court, this defamation claim follows on the heels of that first dramatic judicial encounter.
After Calculate appealed his detention in an Adamawa State High Court, the court granted him release with lenient restrictions, putting an end to the public outrage that preceded his incarceration.
The current lawsuit filed by Calculate is now perceived as a defensive action, however it caught many by surprise due to the apparent success of a mediation effort launched last week by Senator Ishaka Abbo, a prominent lawmaker. Both sides were believed to be contemplating a peaceful resolution.
