Following a previous confrontation in the region, groups of people believed to be bandits were spotted making their way towards Kotonkoro in Mariga Local Government region of Niger State via the Mailaka axis.
Security analyst Bakatsine stated on X that the uprising occurred after an assault on the farm of Alhaji Hashimu Kotonkoro, a vigilante leader in the Mariga LGA, which is located on the outskirts of Kotonkoro.
“New bands of bandits have been seen streaming down the Mailaka axis towards Kotonkoro in Mariga LGA, Niger State,” Bakatsine reported.
“People living in the area should be on high alert,” the statement continued.
It has been reported by Bakatsine that “two people were shot and wounded during the fighting and are currently receiving medical treatment, while several others were abducted and taken into the surrounding forest.”
The authorities have not yet issued a formal confirmation of the occurrence.
