Four accused bandits and one vigilante were slain in a recent Kebbi incident

During a joint security operation in Kebbi State’s Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, a member of the Yansakai vigilante group was slain, and four suspected bandits were neutralised.

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, detailed the incident in a post on X on Tuesday night.

According to the post, the event began when a large group of armed bandits, reported to have crossed into Kebbi from the Gumi Forest in adjacent Zamfara State, invaded Gadar Wanda, a village on the outskirts of Danko Town, and stole an unidentified number of sheep.

Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer dispatched police tactical teams, local vigilantes, and Yansakai members to apprehend the perpetrators.

“The security operatives apprehended the bandits and engaged them in a gun battle. During the exchange of fire, four suspected bandits were killed, causing the remaining attackers to flee,” Makama explained.

However, Tukur Ukuhu, 40, a member of the Yansakai vigilante organization, died during the operation.

Shehu Mohammed Maikaji, a Police Constabulary officer, was also shot and injured.

The injured officer was brought to Martha Bamaiyi General Hospital in Zuru for treatment, and the body of the deceased vigilante member was also transported to the hospital before being released to his family for burial following the proper formalities.

According to the post, security services have resumed their efforts to retrieve the rustled animals and apprehend the fleeing thieves.
