Gunmen stormed Government Secondary School, GSS, Olowa in Kogi State’s Dekina Local Government Area on Tuesday, kidnapping the school principle, four pupils, and a National Examinations Council, NECO, ad hoc staff member while the NECO examination was in progress.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert who covers Lake Chad, reported on the development.
According to the report, the attack occurred about 5:25 p.m. when armed gunmen stormed the school grounds while students were writing their exams.
Makama said that the gunmen kidnapped four pupils, the school administrator, and a NECO ad hoc official before departing the scene with the victims.
“The attackers abducted four students alongside the principal of the school and a NECO ad hoc official before fleeing to an unknown destination,” the report said.
According to the report, a combined security team initiated a search-and-rescue operation immediately following the event and is now searching down the abductors.
Makama also stated that one of the abducted students had been rescued, and that efforts to free the remaining victims had been stepped up.
According to the story, security personnel have begun bush-combing operations, as well as intelligence collection and monitoring throughout the area, in order to find the kidnappers’ hideout and rescue those still held captive.
Makama noted that investigations into the event are underway as security services work to capture the offenders and restore order in the area.
