Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, has expressed sadness at the death of Nigerian football icon Henry Nwosu.
On Saturday, Obi expressed his sadness at the death of the ex-Super Eagles star, describing him as one of the greatest patriots he admired as a child.
Obi stated that the football hero used his talent and passion to boost the spirit of the nation on the football pitch.
stated that Henry Nwosu died at the age of 62.
According to him, Nigeria would always be grateful for Nwosu’s contributions to the development of our football heritage.
“I learned with great sadness about the death of Nigerian football hero Henry Nwosu. As a child, I adored watching him and other great patriots. He used his talent and enthusiasm to boost the spirit of our country on the football pitch.
“As a crucial player of the Nigerian squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1980, when I was just 18, he produced memories that drew Nigerians together across all divides, demonstrating that sport can inspire optimism, pride, and a sense of national belonging.
“My deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and the entire Nigerian football community. I pray that God gives his loved ones the strength to bear this devastating loss and that his soul finds eternal rest.
“May his legacy continue to inspire young Nigerians to serve our nation with excellence and humility,” he wrote in an email.
