The reason I did not kneel before my wife when I proposed to her – Made Kuti

Made Kuti, the son of the renowned Fela Kuti and afrobeat vocalist, has expressed his perspective on the marriage proposal and the process.

The 30-year-old disclosed that he did not descend to his knees when proposing to his wife, Inedoye Onyenso, as he is of the opinion that it should be a mutual decision, rather than one individual pleading on their knees.

In a recent episode of the Timeless Podcast, which was broadcast on the Nix Network YouTube channel, the Grammy-nominated artist made this statement.

“I did not kneel down to propose to my wife, as I informed her that it was a mutual decision.” He stated, “We are not imploring one another to be in a relationship.”

In November 2023, Made Kuti and Inedoye Onyenso exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Lagos.

The singer disclosed that Inedoye was his erstwhile “school daughter.”

In 2025, Made confronted those who accused him and his wife, Inedoye, an Igbo, of “mixing blood” as a result of their distinct ethnic heritage.

The music artist characterised ethnic bigotry as a “slave mentality.”
