The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denounced the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their “mindless and unpatriotic” responses to US President Donald Trump’s latest military threat to Nigeria.
Felix Morka, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, announced this on Wednesday during an interview with Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
Morka also chastised opposing parties for seeking to politicise the matter, labelling their actions “irresponsible and despicable.”
He stated that the US government, led by President Trump, must guarantee that any decision or statement about Nigeria is based on accurate information.
He warned that measures based on misleading narratives might have serious ramifications for the entire West African area.
Morka said that any military action against Nigeria could cause instability in neighbouring countries, emphasising that cooperation between both countries was the best way to battle terrorism.
He stated, “But you see, whatever it is, the United States government, of which President Trump is the leader, has a responsibility to ensure that he gets the facts straight and correct on this matter, because any decision or action based on false argument, or false narratives, what I call some conjured narratives about Nigeria, will not affect Nigeria alone.
This will have an impact on all other countries in the region.
“Our borders are open if anything happens in Nigeria, and if Nigerians feel endangered by any type of military intervention from the United States, all neighbouring nations will be included in this spectre of reaction and counter-reaction.
“So I think this is pointless. We can address this issue more effectively if the US government collaborates with Nigeria to offer whatever support or help they can muster to the theatre to battle terror, which I know the US is passionately opposed to.
“I think that beyond those who are manipulating the situation, for example, look at the Nigerian opposition, why would the ADC and the PDP issue such dumb, disloyal statements? It’s wrong. I believe it’s time for a national reckoning.
There is time for politics. This is not the time for self-serving.
