Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has stated that, while he is a member of the Labour Party and has campaigned for its governorship candidate, his first priority is a free, fair, and credible election on November
Obi made the comment while speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender underlined that all of the governorship candidates were his friends and urged them to prioritise the state’s interests over personal ambition as they prepare to run for office.
“For this election, my party is the Labour Party. I want an election that is free and fair. All of the contestants are my pals.
As a Labour Party member, I support our candidate but will never buy votes. I want the elections to be completely free and fair.
I’m not on the ballot, but I believe all of the candidates are somehow related to me. Let the people of Anambra choose their governor. People should not engage in vote buying.
I’m not against any of them,” he stated.
He also stated that he left office as governor 12 years ago at the age of 42, emphasising that he has no personal stake in the race and insisting that the people of Anambra be allowed to freely choose their future leader.
