The first day of the Premier League has brought about a dramatic shift in Gary Neville’s top-four predictions for this season, according to the former Manchester United captain.
It should be remembered that Manchester City beat Wolves 4-0 and Liverpool beat Bournemouth 6-2. In Sunday’s match at Old Trafford, Arsenal prevailed against Manchester United, 1-0.
Nevertheless, Neville has reconsidered one of his season forecasts in light of Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United.
In a prediction made last week, the Englishman had Ruben Amorim’s squad finishing in sixth place for the current season.
After seeing his former team play Arsenal, the retired footballer is of the opinion that they will shock everyone by finishing in the top four this season, just behind Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
Based on his observation of Manchester United’s performance against Arsenal, Neville predicts that the Red Devils will acquire a custodian and shared this prediction with Sky Sports.
With a new custodian on board, together with the offensive talent of that front line and the absence of European competition, I believe they will shock everyone by finishing in the top four. I had them placing sixth or eighth last week, but I really enjoyed and felt they played a fantastic game.
“I care about performances; even though we lost yesterday, I think they’ll win a lot of games this season if they keep up this level of play.”
When asked to choose a champion, Neville said that he thinks Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal are all in it for the title.
Nevertheless, he maintained that Arsenal might unseat the Reds and the Cityzens in the domestic league title race with the addition of Viktor Gyokeres.
“I don’t think Arsenal are going to win it because I think Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal are all in with an equal chance,” Neville added.
“I believe they have the necessary resources; now they need to resolve the forward portion of the pitch, which I believe Viktor Gyokeres will do.”
