The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, expressed his appreciation on Saturday to the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for “standing firm and defending what is right in the state” while also supporting him and President Bola Tinubu.
Wike noted that the Assembly members have shown both trust and the ability to lead while adhering to the right principles.
He made these remarks during a visit to the lawmakers at the House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt.
Wike encouraged them to persist in their commitment to what is right, emphasizing that they have set themselves apart in the nation as a symbol of democracy.
He criticized the actions that resulted in the withholding of their benefits by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, before the State of Emergency was declared.
The minister stated: “It is crucial to come to the members of the State House of Assembly to express gratitude for what you have done for us and the people of Rivers State. I also want to thank you for the car gift.
“A man’s strength; a woman’s strength is influenced by their partners. I’ve encountered men who lack masculinity and women who lack femininity. I mention this because if you haven’t had the chance to be in the corridors of power, you may not realize that a man can be negatively influenced by his partner and a woman can be negatively influenced by hers.
“However, in the State House of Assembly, they have all demonstrated that they are united in their efforts for the state’s development.
“Having been actively involved in politics, I have witnessed it all. This is the first instance where I have seen legislators openly declare their principles and stand firm, proving that we are a distinct branch of government, not merely a department.
Some are truly courageous and can say no when things are amiss. Those who are fortunate enough to hold your positions may find various ways to manipulate situations.
