Claims that the Nigerian government has halted the publication of implementation guidance for the tax laws have been denied.
In a post on X on Thursday, Taiwo Oyedele, the chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, refuted the reports.
Oyedele’s remarks coincided with reports that the nation’s rules for implementing tax reform had been put on hold.
The reports, he said, were fake news.
despite appeals for their suspension, the tax regulations, which went into effect just 14 days ago, have continued to spark controversy.
The Nigeria Labour Congress, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, and others have demanded that the tax legislation be suspended.
In a recent TVC interview, Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, stated that the reforms are beneficial to Nigerians and ruled out suspending the tax rules.
