advance of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has screened 131 candidates for the House of Assembly and three candidates for the Senate.
After the screening process was finished, Tyem Gideon Nanden, the chairman of the screening committee, revealed this to reporters in Jos.
The selected candidates are anticipated to take part in the party’s primary elections, which are set for next Wednesday, he said.
According to Nanden, the majority of the candidates—including those running for the state’s three senatorial districts—rose through consensual agreements.
He named Johnbuil Shekarau, Timothy Golu, and Formson Godson Dalyop as the senatorial candidates, pointing out that they were the front-runners for Plateau South, Central, and North, respectively.
He added that all candidates for the House of Representatives were chosen by consensus, with the exception of the federal constituency seat in Langtang North/Langtang South, which is still up for debate.
He claims that 131 candidates are vying for seats in the 24-member Plateau State House of Assembly.
Additionally, Nanden revealed that five state candidates for governor are presently being screened in Abuja.
Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, Sarpya Danielo, Sunday Biggs, Alfred Dapal, and Alex Ladam are among the candidates running for governor.
Speaking about internal party matters, Nanden denied allegations of PDP factionalization, stating that the party is still united under the direction of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman.
Additionally, he stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, still recognises the PDP and ruled out the idea of any other group putting forward candidates for the polls.
