President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the 122-kilometre Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road project on Tuesday, honouring his campaign commitment made over three years ago as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Represented by Governor Uba Sani, he reminisced that on December 22, 2022, Tinubu visited Kaduna during the campaign and went to Birnin Gwari despite security warnings.
He stated that during that period, Birnin Gwari was the nucleus of banditry, abduction, and insurgency; nonetheless, Tinubu contended that “as an individual seeking the presidency of Nigeria, he must travel to Birnin Gwari.
The Governor stated that the former GOC of One Mechanised Division, the late General Lagbaja, sent us with 21 Armoured Vehicles accompanied by military troops to Birnin Gwari.
We departed Kaduna at approximately 4pm and reached Birnin Gwari after four and a half hours due to poor road conditions, arriving at 8:30pm. At the Emir’s palace, His Royal Highness bestowed a traditional title upon the presidential contender.
Governor Uba Sani revealed that Asiwaju has “committed to the reconstruction of the road from Mando in Kaduna to Birnin Gwari. He additionally vowed to use every effort to restore security and normalcy to Birnin Gwari.
