Rashid Afegbua, the newly designated Assistant Inspector General of Police in Zone Six, Calabar, has urged all Investigating Police Officers (IPOs) and departments to exercise diligence, professionalism, and objectivity in managing criminal investigations.
He delivered remarks to all police officers in the area on his second day in office, Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Zonal Headquarters in Calabar.
As a result, he instructed DCP Abiodun Bakare, Esq., the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department, along with department heads and supervising officers, to guarantee rigorous oversight, thorough examination, and quality assurance of all investigations.
He emphasised that issues deemed solely civil should not be regarded as criminal cases, regardless of their presentation.
He voiced apprehension regarding the escalating financial obligations resulting from garnishee orders imposed on the Force, attributing numerous instances to inadequately researched cases and administrative errors.
He urged personnel to uphold the fundamental principles of the Nigeria Police Force by adopting professionalism, discipline, responsibility, integrity, and commitment to their responsibilities.
The AIG emphasised that the ongoing practice of sending petitions and relocating case files from State Commands to the Zonal Headquarters without justification must stop.
