A key PDP chieftain and former spokesman for ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, Umar Sani, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of leading Nigeria’s economy to ruin through his policies.
Sunday, Sani released a statement in which he accused Tinubu’s government of a “state capture agenda” and of seeking to solidify a one-party system in Nigeria, threatening the country’s political and economic stability in the process.
The elimination of gasoline subsidies, the floating of the naira, and the increase in energy tariffs were among Sani’s major criticisms of the president’s policies, which she said were careless actions that had worsened poverty in the nation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu displayed an astonishing callousness toward Nigerians from the very beginning of his presidency,” Sani said.
“He acknowledged that following his swearing-in, he made two important announcements on the spot: eliminating the fuel subsidy and changing the currency rate system. He admitted it required a lot of bravery to make those statements.”
Sani claims that millions of Nigerians’ everyday lives were instantly affected by the “skyrocketing prices and hyperinflation” triggered by the naira’s floating and the elimination of fuel subsidies.
In addition, he said that the rearrangement of power tariffs into Bands A, B, and C, together with hefty price hikes, has made things worse for regular people.
“An already struggling populace has only been burdened further by the categorization of electricity consumers and the sharp price hikes,” Sani remarked.
Also cited by the PDP mainstay as having “pushed more citizens into poverty and sparked protests across the nation” are the elimination of subsidies for farming, cattle, and credit programs.
Sani emphasized the growing opposition to Tinubu’s tax reform proposal and argued that the present government’s policies demonstrate a willful ignorance of Nigerians’ welfare.
“The economic disaster that we are seeing now is due to policies that were poorly planned and rushed into effect. “Tinubu is leading Nigeria down the path to economic disaster,” he proclaimed.
Sani ended by calling on Nigerians to stand firm against those who would threaten the democracy and economic destiny of their country.
