In Saturday’s 2-0 win over Manchester City, the United team’s local rivals, interim manager Michael Carrick lauded captain Bruno Fernandes for his performance.
Fernandes was instrumental in Manchester United’s success with an outstanding performance.
The 31-year-old improved his position in Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 formation and assisted Bryan Mbeumo for United’s first goal to cap off a fantastic display.
Following the match, Carrick praised the Portuguese midfielder’s performance, calling it “fantastic,” and praised his and Mbeumo’s defensive work.
Bruno and I have a long history of communication. During his press conference, he reiterated his opinion that he had performed admirably.
His role-playing is spot-on, he’s very intelligent, and he possesses key field positioning. Bryan [Mbeumo] contributed defensively to help keep the team safe from threats in the centre of the pitch, and he had a huge responsibility for discipline.
Up to that time, things weren’t always sunny and bright, but his brilliance is undeniable. He is quite versatile; in that capacity, he poses a serious threat; and he was important.
Later this month, Fernandes returned from a hamstring injury and had extensive playing time in the match against Burnley as well as in the games that followed.
Fernandes has returned to action and has contributed an assist in each of the three games he has played in thus far.
In 21 games played across all competitions this season, he has scored five goals and assisted on ten more.
With nine assists, he is also the league leader in that category.
