The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has stressed that the proposed N4.237 trillion budget for 2026 should closely align with the needs of residents, tackling urgent social and economic issues.
Obasa made these comments on Tuesday during the formal presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos Assembly complex.
According to Naijatrial, the governor has put forward a N4.237 trillion proposal, referred to as the “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” for lawmakers to review and approve.
The Speaker pointed out that the budget should enhance economic resilience, improve welfare, strengthen security, and support sustainable infrastructure development throughout all communities in Lagos.

He remarked that the current status of the state is a product of ‘hard work, creativity, and laws that foster innovation and excellence among our citizens.’
Reflecting on the accomplishments of the Assembly under his leadership, Obasa noted that in the last ten years, the legislature has passed over 100 laws and more than 1,500 resolutions aimed at improving governance and enhancing the lives of residents.
Obasa praised Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team for delivering a thorough fiscal plan that reflects Lagos’ dedication to growth and inclusive development.

He emphasized that the strength of the state is rooted in unity, strategic planning, inclusive policies, and governance that respects human freedom.
“Our advancement is founded not on arrogance but on collective effort, sophistication, and a forward-thinking vision,” he stated, adding that these principles should guide the decisions regarding the 2026 budget.
The Speaker mentioned that the Assembly has consistently backed the executive in passing laws that foster socio-economic progress
