The importance of road infrastructure in national growth has been emphasized by Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who has highlighted its effects on healthcare, education, security, and agriculture.
During Wike’s tour of ongoing road construction in Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Councils on Friday, May 16, 2025, the remarks were made, according to a news release released by Rabi Musa Umar, Assistant Director of news in the Office of the Hon. Minister.
The Minister paid a visit to two roads in Gwagwalada: the 10-kilometer Aguma Palace-Radio Nigeria-New Market Road and the 15-kilometer A2 to Pai Road, which connects the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway to the Pai settlement in Kwali.
“Road network is what brings development,” the Minister said after the inspection. Which school would you attend if roads were nonexistent?
Do you have a preferred hospital? How does one transport agricultural goods when there are no roadways?
In addition to improving safety with amenities like streetlights, he said that road connectivity helps farmers in rural areas move commodities to metropolitan markets.
The quality of the work and the positive welcome from local communities were reasons for Wike’s satisfaction. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, he said, places an emphasis on visible, meaningful development, and these projects are concrete proof of that. When citizens are pleased with the government’s performance, it makes us happy. “That gives us hope and shows that we are moving in the right direction,” he remarked.
The contractors, he said, kept to high standards and provided the communities with infrastructure that was needed. The Minister further said that President Tinubu’s backing and direction were responsible for the fruitful completion of numerous projects around the FCT. The correct leadership leads to success, he proclaimed.
Wike said that the FCT administration is investing in education and other vital sectors in addition to road building. The news release states that over sixty schools in the FCT have been updated and equipped. “We will ensure that no industry is left behind. The minister gave the assurance that all sectors will be given attention.
The FCT Administration is planning to commission many finished projects in celebration of President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office, which includes the inspection tour.
