A final year student has abandoned her newborn baby in a bush in Nasarawa

A baby girl was discovered alive after being left in a bush in Akwanga town, Nasarawa State.

Residents rescued the infant on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, close to Hope Academy Primary School in the A. A. Koto area.

According to the police, the baby’s mother, who is a final-year NCE student at the College of Education in Akwanga, allegedly left her child behind. With the help of her friends and classmates, she was later apprehended.

No additional information has been shared regarding the reasons behind her actions. The trend of abandoning newborns is increasingly becoming common among young individuals.

The woman, named Maryam Atiku, had wrapped three pieces of cloth around the baby’s neck, covered her mouth, and taken her to Malam Yaro bush.
