According to Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, the state is not making money off of its plentiful solid mineral deposits at the moment.
The Governor, however, made note of the fact that he now has the chance to meet with investors who can assist in developing the sector and increasing the state’s revenue thanks to the lifting of the federal restriction on solid minerals.
During Wednesday’s episode of Politics Today on Channels Television, Lawal made this statement and mentioned that he spoke with private sector stakeholders with investments in the state as recently as last month.
According to the governor, if all goes according to plan, the federal government and the state would receive more money.
“However, it is regrettable that at this time, Zamfara State is not receiving any revenue from solid minerals,” the governor lamented.
Once investments in solid minerals start to pay off, the state will no longer need federal funds, according to Lawal.
When we finish it, I don’t see us continuing to use FAAC. He was confident that the state of Zamfara could be developed and progressed with ease. Lawal went on to say that, in the past two years, the security situation in Zamfara had significantly improved.
He elaborated that he had organized Community Protection Guards in each LGA upon taking office, and that they had been collaborating with traditional security forces to fight banditry across the state.
His position on negotiating with bandits was unequivocal, and he made it clear that the government would accept unconditional surrender from anyone.
