In the run-up to the 2027 election, Peter Obi, a presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (ADC), has spoken publicly about his thoughts on Joash Amupitan, the current chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to what Obi said, no one can say for Amupitan whether or not he would vote ethically.
While answering a question regarding his thoughts on the INEC Chairman, he made the remarks during an interview in Germany.
Obi made it clear that he has not yet met Amupitan in person since being chosen head of the electoral umpire. He explained that, in his view, Amupitan is like a referee, and it is impossible to determine if they will do the right or wrong thing.
What I do every day is remind the youth that this is about them and their future; we want a better future for them because it is their right.
It is a wonderful country with the potential to improve and the means to do so; you must not let this trend continue.
Once again, if Nigeria is thriving now, it’s good news for Europe as well, as you are our nearest neighbours. German corporations will increase their business in Nigeria if the country is currently thriving.
In addition, Obi brought up the fact that the 2027 elections give Nigerians a chance to avoid making a mistake.
Regardless of their position, the people have the power to choose not to act immorally.
The decision to refrain from wrongdoing rests with the people; the focus is on them.
“From the time I became governor till today, I have witnessed systems change, and I have heard people say that we can’t have this,” he added.
