The All Progressives Congress, or APC, has lambasted the African Democratic Congress, or ADC, calling the party its own foe.
The APC stated that the ADC requires no external assistance to achieve its political doom, and that the David Mark-led party is doing an excellent job of crippling itself even before it has a chance to stand on its own.
The APC, in a statement signed by Felix Morka, its National Publicity Secretary, referred to the ADC and its leaders as intolerable jesters.
“They weaponise dark humour as a strategy to deceive, distract and disrupt in desperation for public sympathy,” according to the statement.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the ADC alleged that the APC was to blame for the shooting of its members in Edo State.
The APC statement added, “That is just delusional. Accusing the APC before any inquiry by law enforcement is particularly foolish, because it demonstrates the ADC’s lack of focus and disregard for due process. With its false conclusion, the party has declared itself to be the accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge in its own case.
“Nigerians must wonder how a party that cannot manage a single incident with proper guidance, maturity, and in accordance with legal and constitutional procedures can be trusted to manage the complexities of Nigeria’s security environment.”
“In its press release, the ADC refers to ‘cases of acts of terrorism by the ruling APC against our party’, which is dangerous and unacceptable. This portrayal merely portrays the ADC and its leaders as a confused bunch, seeking to stir up passions and gain public sympathy at any cost.
“Its cavalier claim demonstrates that the ADC is out of touch with the prevailing reality of the country’s war on terror, as well as insensitive to the patriotic sacrifices made by our troops on the front lines in defence of our lives and liberties.
“Make no mistake: any form of political violence is reprehensible and must be opposed by all well-meaning Nigerians. Our great Party strongly condemns the reported shooting incident in Edo State. We urge police and other law enforcement officials to conduct a speedy investigation into the incident and bring the offenders to justice.
“The investigation into this incident should begin with a thorough examination of the ADC, its leaders, and members as primary suspects. The ADC, a party of leaders without members, is dominated by internal leadership and cult-like supremacy conflicts.
Among other leads, law enforcement should look into widely reported violent fights and confrontations between its factional leaders for control and access to particular party gatherings.
The ADC cannot defame our great Party with a violent episode of its own creation.
“To be clear, the APC had no involvement or culpability in the terrible shooting incident.
We are too preoccupied with our recent great successes in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, municipal elections, and the Rivers and Kano state constituency elections to pay attention to a little and insignificant conference of ADC political wanderers in Edo state.
Despite their bothersome outbursts, the ADC should be just as busy attempting to figure out why it performed so poorly in prior and current by-elections across the country.
