Pastor Peter Akpe, the recently appointed Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, has stated that he did not solicit for the position after his predecessor died.
Akpe described his new work as an opportunity to help people rather than chasing personal recognition.
This information was presented during a reception at the Government House in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State’s capital city.
According to Akpe, “But let me clarify that I have not gone to push for any post, including this one. Most of the influential Bayelsa (big) men are present.
If I have ever told you to lobby for me, please mention so here. In my life, God has always moved people to do things for me. So I’ve always said, “Lord, do your own.”
“I did not achieve this duty on my own. I owe this state more dedication, attention, and service. This office is not just mine; it belongs to everyone who believes in a better Bayelsa. But let me be clear: I have not gone to ask for any post, even this one.
“The majority of Bayelsa’s influential guys are here. If I have ever asked you to campaign for me, please mention it here. In my life, God has always been the one who moves people’s hearts to assist me. So I’ve always told the Lord, “Just do your own thing.”
“Yes, several people approached me and asked, ‘What are you doing about this? And I said, “Let the will of God be done.” You should not get involved in something that God has not approved or prepared you for. So, I’d like to devote all of the thanks and honour to the Almighty God.
“I’d also like to thank His Excellency, the Governor, for this magnificent honour. It is an honour for the governor to have you work with him and to perceive you as capable of handling more duties. I also sincerely appreciate the House of Assembly and my constituents.”
