Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, a previous presidential candidate in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from the party.
Ogbonnia submitted his resignation letter to the APC chairman of Owelli/Amoli/Ugbo/Ogugu Ward in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The former APC leader accused President Bola Tinubu of governing ineffectively, resulting in foreign military intervention in Nigeria.
The letter was disseminated at all levels of the party.
Ogbonnia also sent his APC party membership card in the correspondence.
The politician stated that his choice was made after thorough consultation with his family, political associates, and careful consideration of the prevailing political circumstances in Nigeria and inside the party.
He also remembered that he was a founding member of the APC, harbouring aspirations for positive change, growth, and the comprehensive development of Nigeria, which recent events and the party’s direction have undermined.
Ogbonnia stated that recent developments have rendered his membership impossible and intolerable.
The party’s leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inadequately addressed pressing concerns such as insecurity, poverty, and unemployment, which directly affect the future of our populace and the numerous youth.
The absence of internal party democracy:
Pervasive undemocratic practices, imposition of leadership, marginalisation of loyal members, vengeance politics, and rampant nepotism have collectively undermined election rights and suppressed internal involvement and development.
“One-party state: The party has vigorously sought a one-party state by employing covert tactics to suppress the opposition.”
“Insufficient youth representation: The notable deficiency of young individuals in pivotal federal positions, indicating a neglect of future generations,” he stated.
